Сейчас замечаю что много в основном здоровых людей сталкиваются с депрессией и при чём мало из них это даже сами осознают хотя довольно очевидно что у них не все впорядке когда элементарно с ними начинаешь общаться.

Идти далеко не надо даже на форуме можно увидеть яркие примеры типа ""Кристмас ..... ть ..... его ..... всмысле как встречать его ?" "

Скрывать не буду что меня самого тоже весь этот праздничный шарад не очень то возбуждает.

Раньше слышал про SAD и только что пошарив нашел статью которая доступным языком рассматривает это явления.

Преподношу вашему вниманию...

Буду очень рад если кто-то поймет что происходит и ему или ей жизнь перестанет казаться хуже чем на самом деле она есть.

Many feeling 'holiday blues'

Unrealistic expectations can lead to stress, anxiety and depression.

Christmas has nearly arrived with its traditional helping of holiday cheer, but you don’t have to be a grinch or scrooge to feel the holiday blues.

Many area residents will scramble to stores and slave in kitchens as the holiday rush reaches its last-minute peak as they attempt to meet unrealistic expectations that often result in stress, anxiety and even depression.

“I think of it as people wishing for what use to be,” said Sam Johnson, a licensed professional counselor with Rural Mental Health Associates in Franklin.

He said people often reminisce about their favorite childhood holiday experiences and dream up unrealistic images that they attempt to recreate.

“We often remember the wonderful things about the holidays, but fail to remember that it wasn’t perfect,” he said.

“When you are 40 things aren’t going to be the same as when (you were) younger,” agreed Cindy Curran, a case worker with Oil City Family and Youth Services.

People may think of particularly good memories or see happy families depicted on television and fail to realize that it isn’t real life, she said.

Curran advises that people be realistic when setting holiday goals because “families change and traditions change.”

Johnson said that those with too much on their plates simple need to take a break and not worry about making the extra batch of holiday treats.

“Give yourself permission to relax,” Johnson advised. “It is OK to relax on the couch instead of baking cookies.”

“Sometimes it’s just not realistic to be in five different places in one day,” Curran added. “Only do as much as you can.”

Both of the counselors acknowledged that while some try and do too much, others don’t feel up to doing anything at all.

The season can bring out issues people have bottled up during the year such as family conflicts or deaths in the family, Curran said. These issues can take the joy out of the season.

“Get involved,” Johnson recommended. “Go out and visit friends or co-workers if you don’t have family.”

Johnson added that volunteering is a great way to get into the Christmas sprit while helping bring holiday cheer to others.

“Be active even if it is just decorating the house or making cookies,” he said.

Another issue that often adds to holiday woes is a Christmas-time money crunch, both Curran and Johnson said.

Curran said that people feel pressure to buy presents even if they can’t afford to, often in an attempt to avoid disappointing their children.

“People tend to overspend,” she said. “There are people who really can’t afford to (buy presents). They feel hopeless and sad because they can’t do anything.”

She recommends setting a budget and sticking with it from the beginning of the holiday season.

There are also options available to the community’s low-income families. Non-profit organizations like the Salvation Army and Community Services of Venango County offer programs that provide toys for children to unwrap on Christmas.

Johnson estimates that holiday grief and depression cases begin picking up around Thanksgiving and often don’t decline until after Valentines Day.

This coincides with the rough Pennsylvania winters, which the counselors agree play a part in the increased depression rates.

“Especially in this area seasonal effective disorder is an issue,” Curran said blaming shorter days with less sunlight that result in more time spent indoors and isolated.

“The cold weather and shortened days definitely play into (depression),”Johnson said.

Counseling is available to anyone who is suffering from the disorder.

“If there is someone in your family (that is depressed) just try to be supportive of them,” Curran said. “If the sadness is persistent, encourage them to seek help.”
