I have ran into situations where I was just nice to a new girl, but just like to a person, but like a girl. Most of them consider it as an advance, and are dead wrong.

Can't a guy just be nice without "making the move"?

Evric - Of course a guy can be nice without making the move. You just have to know the difference between "courtesy" and "flirting". If you have run into many situations where the female mistook your courtesy for flirting, then they were either very full of themselves and automatically assumed that you like them, or you took your "courtesy" a bit overboard. :)
